ANZSPM Awards Lifetime Achievement Award to Rosalie Shaw

At its recent biennial conference, 8-11 September in Perth, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine bestowed honour upon one of its founding members, Dr Rosalie Shaw.
Dr Shaw was awarded a lifetime achievement award and honorary life membership by ANZSPM President, Dr Carol Douglas.
The award coincided with the establishment of the Rosalie Shaw Oration, which is to be a regular feature of future ANZSPM Conferences.
Delegates attending were in awe of Dr Shaw as she reflected upon her personal inspiration and vision for palliative care as she spoke of her journey which began with nursing training in 1963.
In delivering her address, Dr Shaw said that she had learned that kindness, respect [and] genuine interest in the person and their life story earned their trust, and that it was a privilege to do this work that touches deeply into the mystery of what it means to be human, what it means to life for this brief span, to suffer and die.
Dr Shaw received a standing ovation from the floor.
