ANZSPM guidance - Palliative care in the COVID-19 context

In response to COVID-19 and to support the work of the Australian COVID-19 Palliative Care Working Group, ANZSPM established a COVID-19 Special Interest Group in March 2020. The group has produced guidance documents on palliative care in the COVID-19 context for the support of healthcare professionals.

The documents are intended to provide high level guidance only. It is recommended that healthcare professionals consult their local palliative care teams for advice on individual cases. The documents are subject to change and will be reviewed regularly as the situation evolves.

Other COVID-19 context palliative care resources

In addition to the guidance documents produced by the ANZSPM COVID-19 SIG, ANZSPM has collated the following resources to support our members and others in providing care in the challenging environment presented by the coronavirus COVID-19.

Australian COVID-19 Palliative Care Working Group (ACPCWG)

An Australian COVID-19 Palliative Care Working Group (ACPCWG) has been formed to support the palliative care response to COVID-19. The ACPCWG is a partnership between Palliative Care Australia (PCA), the Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM), Palliative Care Nurses Australia (PCNA), the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (AChPM) of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), the End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC) program and Paediatric Palliative Care Australia and New Zealand (PAPCANZ), CareSearch and caring@home.

NZ Taskforce on COVID-19

Through ANZSPM's existing collaboration with the key palliative care peak bodies in NZ, a taskforce on COVID-19 has been rapidly put in place. The taskforce continues to work on developing a range of resources to support all clinicians during the COVID-19 situation. Hospice NZ is hosting on its website resources for both public and health professional information. ANZSPM's Aotearoa Committee is providing regular updates shared with NZ members on the work of the collaboration.
