The Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM) welcomes Ms Janice Besch as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Janice takes over from Ms Simone Carton, who has recently taken up the role of CEO at the ACT Law Society. She brings to the position a depth of experience across public policy, university research and not-for-profit sector administration. Most recently, Janice was the Director of the NHMRC National Institute for Dementia Research (NNIDR) where she was responsible for guiding the national effort to boost dementia research and its translation, by bringing together Australia's leading dementia researchers and drawing on the expertise of consumers, health professionals, industry and policy makers.
Ms Besch said, "I'm excited about this new opportunity and look forward to working with ANZSPM members in Australia and New Zealand to support their important work through the professional development opportunities we provide, through advocacy, and through collaborations with other key organisations."
A/Prof Leeroy William, ANZSPM President said, "I am delighted that Janice has come on board to lead our ANZSPM office staff as well as supporting ANZSPM council in meeting the challenges we face in such uncertain times. Simone has positioned the Society well for the future and we are all grateful for her important contribution. We look forward to working with Janice in delivering the membership's vision to be renowned for influential medical leadership in palliative care in Australian and New Zealand."
