New CPD Course Supporting Timely Palliative Care Conversations in Cancer Care
9 July 2027
The Australia and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM) is pleased to announce the release of its new online course, Timely Palliative Care: A Practical Framework developed in partnership with Palliative Care Australia (PCA) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
The course aims to improve clinician skill and confidence in providing timely palliative care referrals for people living with advanced cancer.
By targeting specialist and trainee oncologists and haematologists, the course is designed to complement existing clinical expertise, and explores:
- introducing palliative care alongside active treatment
- acknowledging and communicating uncertainty
- responding to emotional cues from patients and families
- supporting shared decision making
The self-paced online course awards one hour of accredited Category 1 CPD and also provides an optional Category 2 CPD pathway.
Joe Hooper, ANZSPM CEO says, "This course has been developed by specialists for specialists, and provides practical communication strategies clinicians can apply in everyday cancer care."
Every clinician involved in the testing phase said they were likely or very likely to recommend the course to a colleague. Comments include, "Such an incredible module - really engaging, with lots of practical pearls I'll actually use", and "I’m impressed by both the quality of the information and the way it is presented".
We encourage you to explore the course and share it through your professional networks. A recommendation from a trusted colleague can play an important role in helping clinicians discover valuable learning opportunities.
