Prescribing for Malignant Bowel Obstruction in Palliative Care: A Cross-Sectional Australia and New Zealand Survey of Palliative Medicine Practitioners

Dear ANZSPM Member, 

I hope this finds you well. My name is Dr Joshua Sandy, and I am reaching out to you on behalf of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Palliative Medicine Department and the H2 antagonist and PPI Working Party – an interest group of Palliative Medicine clinicians. We are conducting a research study on prescribing practices in the management of malignant bowel obstruction in palliative care settings. 

Given your membership in the Australia New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine, we believe that your valuable insights and experiences would significantly contribute to the success of our study. 

The Inclusion Criteria for participation is as follows:  

Specialist Palliative Medicine Doctors or Nurse Practitioners (Including Advanced Trainees, Unaccredited Training Position Registrars or Career Medical Officers in Palliative Medicine) 

Working currently or have worked in the past 5 years in Specialist Palliative Medicine  

Predominantly work in Australia or New Zealand 

Objective of the Research: Our research aims to gather cross-sectional data on current prescribing patterns and identify any barriers to pharmacological management of malignant bowel obstruction within the palliative care context. 

Survey Details: The survey is designed to be concise and should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Identifiable data will not be collected, and the aggregated data will be used solely for research purposes.

Deadline for Participation: We kindly request that you complete the survey within a 8 week period from receiving the invitation to ensure the timely analysis of data. 

Acknowledgment and Recognition: As a token of appreciation for your valuable contribution, all participants will receive the option to receive a summary of the key findings once the study is concluded that will not be linked to your responses.
